Police Superintendent Maja Silver (played by Helena Bergström) from the Stockholm national police department travels back to her old hometown located deep within the Swedish "Bible Belt". Her primary goal is to reconnect and patch up her strained relationship with her daughter, Rebecka (played by Molly Nutley). However, her personal visit takes a dark turn when the emaciated body of a murdered young woman is discovered in a roadside ditch. Maja is quickly embroiled in the intense investigation. The situation escalates dramatically when another local girl disappears, paralyzing the small, deeply religious community with fear. As Maja digs deeper into the case, she begins to expose the dark undercurrents of the town, revealing that almost every villager is harboring their own hidden secrets under a dominant religious influence.
